Having a well stocked pantry allows me to be creative in the kitchen during the week and keep unplanned shopping trips to a minimum. I prefer to stock as many single ingredient foods as possible. For example, fruits, vegetables, nuts, oats, plain couscous, etc. This reduces the likelihood of eating additives and highly processed foods at home.
However, the commitment to single or less-processed ingredients also means that many popular pantry items, such as cereals, bars, and chocolate spreads are slowly replaced with home made or very simple store bought versions.
I aim to stick to a weekly food budget, so I spend my time making as many pantry staples from scratch as possible. Fancy nut butters, chocolate spreads and raw energy bars can add up quickly. Sometimes, throughout the preparation process, I need to remind myself that the time spent preparing things eaten most frequently is an especially worthwhile investment in your own health and that a super delicious reward is soon to follow.
This Raw Cocoa Orange Bar recipe is inspired by the Nakd Bar. I absolutely adore chocolate and orange flavour combinations. If you like raw energy bars and don’t mind getting your hands a bit sticky, these bars are a must. The flavours are especially well balanced and it comes out much cheaper to make your own bars. Although, speaking from experience, you may just compensate for the savings by eating more of these amazing treats.
